About Jini & Ian
Flexible sums up the way our life has needed to be since we had children. Others call us “flip-flops” or “reliably unreliable”. But we prefer the term “flexible” to describe our modus operandi.
You see, before we had children we could make a decision, implement it and follow through as scheduled. Since having children though, we’ve realized that this way of living no longer works. If we try to stick to previously laid plans, it often just leads to lots of stress and loss of freedom.
Read the post Family Trip Goes Bust to understand the nitty-gritty logistics of why we now need to stay completely flexible and just roll with things – making the best decision in the moment, not months in advance.
Anyway, we may not operate in a straight, logical, linear fashion anymore. We may zig and zag, but you know what? We DO get there in the end. And we get there with the least amount of stress possible – always a huge accomplishment when you have 3 children aged 3 (Hugo), 6 (Zara) and 9 (Oscar).
Now, here’s a little bit about Ian and Jini (aka Dad and Mum):

Ian M. Thompson has a degree in Chemical Engineering – which has nothing at all to do with his career path since!
Ian spent 7 years as an Account Executive for large advertising companies like DDB Needham in both London and Hong Kong. He then ran his own advertising/marketing company in Vancouver, Canada for 10 years.
Since having children, Ian scaled down his operations to a home-based office – outsourcing to the US, India, Argentina, etc. rather than having employees – so he could integrate his business with his parenting and be a full-on Dad as well!
Jini Patel Thompson is a health writer and consumer health advocate who healed herself of widespread Crohn’s Disease (small intestine & large intestine). She has remained drug and surgery-free for over 19 years.
Jini is a recognized expert on natural healing for digestive diseases and has been featured on numerous popular radio shows like The Deborah Ray Show (syndicated to 76 different U.S. cities) and TV shows like Your Health Matters with Doug Kaufman (syndicated to 113 different U.S. cities).
Her articles on natural healing have been published in journals and magazines in the US, UK, and Australia. Her DVD on healing colic in babies was recommended in the number one parenting magazine in the U.S. (Parents magazine, March 2006). And her books on digestive health have sold over 10,000 copies via the Internet alone.
Ian and Jini live in White Rock, BC, Canada with their three children – here they are on the beach in Puerto Vallarta (Zara, Oscar, Hugo):
